I Will Steal Your Money Says Pete Maughan Owner of Prolero Inc.

February 9th, 2010

Today I just wanted to take a minute and highlight a new up & coming scammer in our industry. His name is Pete Maughan and he owns a company called Prolero Inc. Pete and his company over the last few months has been highlighted quite a few times.  A few of the places you can read more about Pete & his company is a Facebook group called The Deadbeat Club – Internet Advertising – People Who Don’t Pay” the group was established to bring awareness to the industry as a whole. This is where networks and affiliates can read up on all the scamming advertisers in the industry trying to play, but not pay their bills when it’s time to pay up. Many of these shady fellows will hop from network to network trying to get their offers listed with the network and  run up a bill small or large and when it’s time to pay up they can’t be reached. You wouldn’t think that this goes on much and these guys don’t have much success. But they do, creating a very lucrative business model for themselves, but leaving the network to foot their bill because typically a network will pay its affiliates as they should.  If you’re not a member of this group I recommend that you join it right away and post up any situations that are appropriate.

Another place that Pete was recently highlighted was on the C2M Blog - Ruck the one who posts there is known for calling slimy fraud affiliates out & bringing awareness to what really goes on, but not talked about so much. You can also read about him calling out Pete and his company Prolero.

I probably wouldn’t be addressing this issue publicly on the ECM blog, but we’ve had a personal experience with Pete ourselves. Somehow we let Pete & his offer Google Corkboard make its way onto our network and while we were out in Vegas recently had a bit of volume roll to it, running up a 12k bill. And when it was time to get paid, well let’s just say we’ve haven’t & don’t expect too, judging by Pete’s track record.  The funny thing is I frequently read up on the Facebook group The Deadbeat Club – Internet Advertising – People Who Don’t Pay” , but somehow I missed this one. So that’s why I wanted to give Pete a standing ovation for being able to once again have a successful, profitable experience with scamming a CPA network. I’m sure that now since  Pete’s name and company name is being smeared across the industry for being a scamming thief he’ll just roll away back under his rock and develop a new identity  to start the whole scamming process all over again.

Comments are welcome. Tell Pete and the rest of the industry how you really feel about him. Let’s make him feel welcome and invite him to make an appearance at an industry show so we can all learn what kind of person not to be like. Good luck to you Pete you’re going to need it buddy. Its people like you that really give our industry a bad name. I hope you’re proud of yourself, it must feel good to be a thief and have everyone in the whole industry think you’re a scammer.  “NOT – I don’t think so.”

Below is a picture of Pete in all his glory!

If you want to reach Pete, I’ve posted some of his details below.

The more people will know about him the better it is for the industry.
We should call all those people out.
Join “The Deadbeat Club – Internet Advertising – People Who Don’t Pay”
    and share info.
As a group we are stronger.

People get back what they put out! Can’t hide from Karma though you can appease it with some good deeds. This guy is definitely ‘cruisin for a brusin’ and he deserves it if it’s all true.!

  3. Pace Lattin says:

Unfortunately, any website or service that keeps track of non-payments in the US is illegal under credit laws.

    Pace-

I’m pretty sure you’re mixing up the laws protecting consumers with laws for debt collection for businesses. Although it does depend on the type of business he owns. But it can be argued by a whole bunch of by-laws, and since the deadbeat hasn’t been paying anyone anyway, it probably doesn’t matter much anyhow. Then again, I’m no lawyer, and neither are you, but you have access to a pretty good one, so ask Steve. :)

Pete and his bald posse of Mormon’s got me for a little bit, he’s a complete peasant. Good riddance.

  6. Lynwood Erne says:

In the new world, there are ‘bankers’ and there are ‘other people’. We don’t look at you as normal people. How can you be if you earnl ess than $500k? It’s just obvious. If you could earn this money you would.

  7. .hack says:

He tried to get me to push for him internally >_>

  8. Brendan says:

The sad part is that he must have been making enough money to pay you and all the other networks he scammed. He just go greedy / seedy and decided to keep it all. Completely short sighted. I’m sure he assumes that there are SO MANY networks out there that he can continue scamming and scamming for the rest of his life. perhaps there is a class action suit waiting for him if all the scammed networks banded together.

  9. Marc Dusing says:

It can feel lonely out there blogging and not having anyone comment or answer back — even if you know folks are visiting. I always think of comments like applause, even if they are negative. At least it’s feedback.

I actually have personal experience with this guy… he comes off like a “sweet and loveable” guy but he is a terrible business man. He’s lost tons of friends over his idiotic business practices and he is dead broke (living in a basement barely paying rent from one failed venture to the next and can barely afford his car insurance). The sad truth isn’t that he is taking all of the money and living like a king- the truth is that he sucks as a business man but is determined to keep trying no matter how many people he screws over in the process. He thinks that with the next venture he’ll hit it big and be able to pay his debts and make some money but the sad truth is that he just needs to cut his losses and realize that it is never going to happen and that he has to stop using and abusing people/companies.

The worst part is that since his name and company are getting such a bad rep that he is constantly finding new people who don’t know anything about it and is using THEIR names for companies and merchant accounts and running up high tabs under their names. Who can you contact to stop such shady practices that leave these people screwed in the process?

The address that is posted here for Peter J Maughan is a UPS Store, does anyone know of an actual physical office address or a home address for him or any of the other principals of Prolero?

  12. Darren says:

You guys don’t even know this dude. Most the time people just don’t pay up or they change their mind after purchasing. Then the charge backs lock the merchant account.

  13. I’m a big fan of this blog and I read it regularly. Keep up the great work!

If only more than 62 people would hear about this!
